EDGAR Next: What You Need to Know Before the September 15, 2025 Deadline

"EDGAR Next is one of the most significant shifts in SEC filing access in decades. If you miss the enrollment deadline, you could lose your ability to file, which could lead to falling out of compliance."

The SEC is rolling out EDGAR Next — a mandatory update for all filers. Starting September 15, 2025, login.gov credentials and updated account management roles will be required to file on EDGAR.
Filers should enroll between March 24 and September 12, 2025 to avoid disruptions. After that, you can still enroll until December 19, 2025, but you won’t be able to file until your enrollment is complete.

EDGAR Next replaces shared credentials with secure individual logins and introduces a new dashboard where you’ll manage user access, assign account administrators, and complete annual confirmations.
If you're not enrolled by the compliance date, your access will be blocked — putting your company at risk of delays, reapplications, and non-compliance.
In this blog, you'll learn what’s changing, what steps to take, and how TMX Newsfile can help simplify the transition.
Key Features of EDGAR Next
Enhanced Security
Replaces shared access codes with secure login.gov credentials and admin-based access
Multifactor authentication required for all users
Improved Account Management
Assign account administrators to manage users and access
Admins must confirm account details annually
New CCC Assignment
You'll receive a new CCC after enrollment
It must be distributed securely to all authorized filers
Optional API Access
Available for machine-to-machine filing through third-party platforms
Here's how EDGAR Next compares to the legacy EDGAR system across key areas of access and management.

What You Need to Do — And How TMX Newsfile Can Help
Below are the steps you need to complete before the September 15, 2025 deadline, along with tips on how TMX Newsfile can support you at each stage.
Step 1: Prepare
Create Your login.gov Credentials - Every person accessing EDGAR must set up an individual login.gov account. TMX Newsfile can walk you through this process, especially for larger teams unfamiliar with secure login systems.
Assign Account Administrators - You'll need to designate 1–2 people to manage users, CIK access and filing rights. If you choose TMX Newsfile Leads, we’ll assign five of our trained admins to your account and help you appoint your internal ones.
Step 2: Enroll
Enroll via the EDGAR Filer Management Dashboard - Enrollment is a one-time action per CIK. Once complete, you’ll receive a new CCC code and updated account structure. TMX Newsfile offers two enrollment options:
TMX Newsfile Leads: We manage enrollment, CCC, admins, and confirmations for $250/year
Client Leads: You enroll and grant TMX Newsfile filing rights via login.gov (more hands-on but still supported)
Submit your completed enrollment form to: office@newsfilecorp.com

Enrollment Rules & Reminders
Before you enroll, keep these key reminders in mind to avoid access issues and ensure a smooth transition:
Only one enrollment is allowed per CIK. If multiple enrollments are submitted, it may create conflicts.
Submit your enrollment form to TMX Newsfile before anyone else enrolls your CIK.
If you'd like TMX Newsfile to complete enrollment on your behalf, please ensure no other party has started the process.
One final detail to keep in mind during enrollment is the role of your new CCC.

Why Enrolling Early Helps You Stay Compliant
Enrolling early in EDGAR Next helps avoid last-minute bottlenecks and keeps your company filing-ready. A surge in enrollments is expected in late summer, which could cause processing delays.
If your passphrase isn’t already on file, regenerating it can take time. Assigning account administrators and securely distributing your new CCC may also take longer than expected if left to the final weeks.
By acting now, you’ll avoid unnecessary delays, reduce stress, and ensure full support throughout the transition. To maintain uninterrupted filing access, enroll by September 12, 2025, ahead of the September 15 compliance date.
Here’s a quick checklist to make sure you're fully prepared for EDGAR Next before the compliance deadline.

Step 3: Stay Compliant
Complete Annual Confirmation - Your CIK must be confirmed each year by an account admin. Miss the deadline and you lose access. With TMX Newsfile Leads, we track and submit confirmations for you.
Monitor Token Expirations - User tokens expire every 30 days. If not renewed in time, you could lose the ability to file. TMX Newsfile monitors token timelines and alerts you before expiry.
"Annual confirmations and token management are part of the new reality with EDGAR Next. We are helping clients stay organized and filing-ready—without the stress.” — Martin Francisco, Filing Lead & News Specialist, TMX Newsfile
If You're Enrolling Yourself
There are two ways to keep TMX Newsfile as your designated filer in the new EDGAR system.
Option 1: Add TMX Newsfile as a delegated filer in your EDGAR account
Option 2: Let us request delegation for your approval
Both options ensure we maintain filing capabilities on your behalf.
